Oscar Grønner for Ambrosia

Oscar Grønner is an illustrator and graphic artist based in Oslo, Norway, who has a simple and personal style. He uses contrast and different shades of light and dark to evoke emotions with simple lines and exaggerated proportions. Fascinated by the process of imagination and coming up with new ideas, he shares with us his take on Ambrosia.

Oscar, how would you define your style?
OGMy style is simple and personal. I like drawing people, exploring body language, facial expressions and creating personalities for my characters. I try to evoke emotions with simple lines and play with shapes and exaggerated proportions.
What inspired you to become an illustrator and graphic artist, and when did you first realise your passion?
OGWhen I was younger I never pictured myself becoming an artist or illustrator, but I’ve always had a love for creating and a fascination for coming up with ideas. In my mid 20’s coincidences led me to illustration, and I soon realised that I love creating my own universe and characters.
Could you share with us what we can find you doing when you are not creating?
OGI love to travel a lot. When I’m home in Oslo I like to cook and watch TV, play tennis or go out for a drink.
Oscar, what challenges have you faced as an illustrator and graphic artist, and how have you dealt with them?
OGOne thing that can be challenging as an illustrator is always having to come up with ideas. Being creative on command can be challenging. This can lead me to procrastinate, but I try to force myself to sit down and start drawing. Starting the creative process usually loosens up my creative block.
What was your inspiration for this proposal? What references have you explored, if any?
OGI built the composition around Ambrosia in a way that highlights and showcases both the Marset lamp and the social setting around the table.
What does Ambrosia express for you? How have you translated it into the scenario you propose?
OGFor me, Ambrosia blends functionality and aesthetics. In the proposed scenario the lamp creates an intimate and inviting atmosphere.
Oscar, could you tell us what feature you find important to highlight about this lamp?
OGI aimed to highlight how Ambrosia's simplicity and minimalist qualities contrast and compliment the warmth and connection between people.
Working with light is essential for any artist. What role has light played in your collaboration with Marset?
OGContrast and the different shades of light and dark plays a big part in this drawing.
