Carolina Carballo for Ginger

Carolina Carballo is a 3D artist based in Barcelona, with a graphic design foundation. Her creations infuse scenes with vibrant hues, transforming ordinary settings into emotional spaces. With her recent explorations into the realm of flora, Carolina underscores the transformative influence of colour, imagination and nature as she shares with us her take on Ginger.

Carolina, as a creative, how would you define your style?
CCI would define my style as very dynamic, colourful and playful.
What inspired you to become a visual designer and when did you first realise your passion?
CCMostly because I was born in a house where my parents had artistic passions too, though I was very curious and wanted to study biology and other careers, I ended up joining the world of Graphic Design and at some point met with 3D softwares.
Could you share with us where you found your inspiration for this proposal? What references did you explore, if any?
CCI tried to incorporate my latest explorations into environments, where the Ginger lamp would live and add ambiance to the atmosphere.
As a visual creative, what is the conceptual meaning of light for you in your work?
CCI like to use light in a way that conveys the colour palettes I'm pursuing, I mostly use natural light and feel very attracted to sunny scenes. I also like to use light in a way that communicates life in its more vibrant aspect.
What challenges have you faced as a creative working with natural and artificial light? How did you overcome them?
CCMastering the use of light is something that I'm still in the process of. I feel very captivated by having to build scenes using natural light and artificial light to add more beauty in the elements of the scene, highlight aspects or hide parts depending on the composition I'm willing to create. Working with light is very dynamic and it allows you to play with colour in a more indirect way, thinking of the qualities of the type of light to achieve a particular tone.
How did light influence your artistic vision and storytelling for this collaboration?
CCFor this collaboration the challenge was to add an element that influences the colour around, while simultaneously remaining as the main element to highlight. I wanted to find a balance between the Ginger and the atmosphere, where both could live in harmony and highlight its qualities reciprocally.
Carolina, what does the Ginger lamp express to you? How did you translate that into the scenario you propose?
CCI was very inspired by the beautiful shape of Ginger and how it could be perceived as a very stylish funghi or flower. The downward casted light from Ginger also adds a lot of magic in the way it interacts with the environment, as if it was almost alive.
Which features did you find important to highlight about the Ginger?
CCThe Ginger evokes a lively element of nature, making it harmoniously blend with any garden or natural space.
