Light as emotion

Sun Bai

Through intimate spaces and a soft palette, Sun Bai’s illustrations portray everyday contemporary scenes. In this opportunity, the Discocó lamp enriches the space through its different light shades and depth. Sun Bai is an illustrator and comic book author based in Lille, France. In her work she always seeks to create intimate narrative spaces, marked with a sweet melancholy. A bonfire, the light of the Discocó, and a winter evening are the elements that accompany the character created by Sun.

What concept did you want to capture in this illustration?
SBI wanted to place the Discocó in a harmonious and tasteful context, where it can become the object that best occupies the space.
What was your inspiration for this illustration? Did you take into account any kind of reference?
SBI looked for a lot of interior design images in order to visualize the place I wanted to create.
What does the Discocó make you think of and in what way do you bring it to a specific context or scenario?
SBThe Discocó made me think of a scenario of contemporary everyday life, so I represented my idea with a male character who has good taste and takes care of his spaces through the curation of design objects.
Is there any characteristic of the Discocó that stands out for you?
SBThe contrast between light, shadow, and reflection, which create a soft and dream-like atmosphere.
Working with light is essential for any artist, how has light influenced your collaboration with Marset?
SBLight was not only an important element in this illustration, but I also wanted it to become the language to create an atmosphere, transfer an emotion, or generate a lifestyle.
