A world beyond the door

nico ito for Pleat Box

Nico ito is an illustrator from Tokyo, Japan.
Her work is influenced by surrealism, translating her imaginations into illustrations to create a story. In this collaboration, she portrayed the
Pleat Box lamp; a design that mixes digital production with ceramics, almost as magical and surprising as her illustrations.

nico, how would you define your style?
NII seek to create illustrations on the theme of a scene from an imaginary world.
What story did you have in mind for this illustration?
NIMy concept is based on the incongruity of seeing a lamp, which is a real piece of furniture that exists in a completely fantastic world.
What was your inspiration?
NII was inspired by the role-playing games I used to play and by Dali.
What does this lamp evoke and in what way are you taking it to the scenario you are proposing?
NIA magic book with instructions on how to make your wishes come true. The Pleat Box lamp illuminates that book in a dimly lit room. To make these wishes come true, you have to go to a world beyond the door. It is the beginning of a new adventure.
What feature did you find important to interpret about this lamp?
NIShape. At first glance, it looks simple, but the finger-pinched unevenness makes it really interesting.
Working with light is essential for any artist, what role has light played in your collaboration with Marset?
NIIt is an important element that not only influences the atmosphere of the work, but also expresses what you want to show, creating an atmosphere and illuminating the main object of the illustration.
