El Molino Theatre

El Molino Theatre

El Molino: color, design and spectacle.

It's not just about attending a show, but immersing yourself in a complete sensory experience. This is the premise from which designers Sandra Soler and Caterina Masferrer started to carry out the renovation project of the emblematic El Molino in Barcelona.

Inaugurated in 1898 and known for its history linked to cabaret and live music, this theater has always been a symbol of the city's culture and identity. The redesign of the space sought to preserve the original essence while incorporating elements that bring freshness and contemporaneity.

One of these elements is the iconic Dipping Light lamp by Jordi Canudas, which can be found in the amphitheater and stalls. This luminaire brings a poetic and artisanal dimension to the space thanks to its manual manufacturing process and its aesthetic based on the superposition of layers of color.

And color is indeed the great protagonist of the project.

Red, the representative color of El Molino, not only symbolizes passion and energy, but is also a tribute to the intense rhythm and vibe of jazz clubs.

"The collaboration with Marset, a local brand with a strong identity and commitment to contemporary design, reflects a cultural and aesthetic affinity that has been key to achieving this balance between past and present."

"The project is a reminder that interior design has the power to tell stories, preserve memories and, at the same time, project a vision towards the future."

"We have treated light as a scenic and emotional element. We use spot lighting to accentuate architectural details and create contrast areas, balanced with the Dipping Light lamps from Marset, which introduce a softer, warmer and more enveloping light. Their design reinforces the intimate and theatrical atmosphere of the place, merging the functional with the poetic."

Jordi Calero from ca2L lighting studio, responsible for this part of the project, adds: "At El Molino, light isn't just a technical resource, it's identity. We wanted light to act as a kind of visual prologue, playing a scenic role. Especially in a place with such theatrical and symbolic weight as El Molino."

"The Dipping Light is a lamp that doesn't just illuminate, it accompanies. The color gradation, the layered effect in the glass, the way it projects light... All of this seemed perfect to us for creating an enveloping, warm and elegant atmosphere."

We await you at the new Molino, a tribute to history with a fresh perspective that celebrates creativity, femininity and passion for design.
