„The Anatomy of Light“, our new book
When we had the idea of publishing a Marset book, we didn't want it to be a simple review of our history and designs. Light is too important a subject to approach in such a limited way.
"The Anatomy of Light" is an exploration of the concept of light from a wide variety of fields and personal visions. A work with images by photographer Eduard Sánchez Ribot and written by many hands. We've had the pleasure of collaborating with design journalist Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, psychologist Dimitra Doumpioti, ophthalmologist Dr. Borja Corcóstegui, artists Ramon Enrich and Gonzalo Guzmán, film director Isabel Coixet, musician, composer and writer James Rhodes, designers Curro Claret, Jordi Canudas and Jaume Ramírez, chef Jordi Vilà, architect Juli Capella and the Mesura architecture studio, writer Marta D. Riezu, lighting designer Jordi Saladié and illustrator Coco Dávez.
Each of them has had the freedom to approach the subject of light from their discipline and experience, with the aim of creating a choral, multifaceted and unique piece designed to be enjoyed by all types of audiences.
When I play my piano, Beethoven's score is a ball of light from two centuries ago that illuminates my life in 2024.
James Rhodes
Light cannot be seen. But it makes visible what surrounds us. It is a physical agent that has presence, but no form. It floods space and yet cannot be captured. Or can it?
Anatxu Zabalbeascoa
There is a light that the blind can see. When creating dishes, and it's not insignificant, I try to bring forth my inner light. If this emerges, all the dishes become illuminated.
Jordi Vilà
"Do you prefer technical or decorative lighting?" "Is the sun technical or decorative?" I remember responding.
Jaume Ramírez
We think of ancient humans, thousands of years ago, telling stories gathered around a fire. That primeval light still remains in our subconscious. Its warmth evokes intimacy, security, comfort, well-being.
That light, and that emotion, is what we want to continue sharing with this book and with our work.
